We held our annual Guitar Night at Trumpets Jazz Club, which introduced young talent Jackie Passoni, Victor Gomes, and Jayson Martinez and also featured Gene Bertoncini and Matt Smith.

NJGMS receives its first grant from NJ State Council on the Arts

We held our annual Guitar Night at Trumpets Jazz Club, featuring young talent Chris Hanson, Brian Barone, Nicholas Giordano and a guest appearance by the Jersey Jammers (banjo trio)

NJGMS receives its first grant from NJ State Council on the Arts

2005-2006

Guest artists at meetings: Dan Lavoie (harp guitar), Paul Meyers, Todd Collins, Gene Bertoncini, Phil Lester, Janet Marlow, John LaBarbera. Meetings also featured member performances, players circle, ensembles sessions, etc.

We held our annual Guitar Night at Trumpets Jazz Club featuring young talent and guest appearance by Keith Fanella.

The NJGMS Newsflyer was printed annually in May (n/a). 

2004-2005

On October 1, 2004 the constitution as amended to reflect our name change to “New Jersey Guitar & Mandolin Society”.

Guest artists at meetings: Seth Himmelhoch, Barry Mitterhoff, Lis Harvey, Enrico Granafei, Sal Savaggio (lute), Matt Smith.

We held a Guitar Ensemble Festival which included student orchestras from Bergen County Academies, Mountain Lakes, Franklin Township, Morristown and William Paterson University. Guest artist for the event was Barry Mitterhoff and Joe Selly.

We held our first Guitar Night at Trumpets Jazz Club which featured young talent from the area.

2003-2004

Guest artists at meetings: Joyce Balint, John Elliot, Christopher Kenniff.

NJCGMS received its designation as Professional Development Provider from the NJ State Department of Education (#5001)

We held a Guitar Ensemble Festival (April 1, 2004) which included student orchestras from Curtis High School (NY), Bergen County Academies, Mountain Lakes, Franklin Township, Morristown. Guest artist for the event was Ana Maria Rosado.

We had 2 Newsflyers: November 2003 and May 2004 (n/a)

2002-2003

Our constitution was adopted on January 2, 2003 as “New Jersey Classical Mandolin & Guitar Society”.

Student Intern Gizen Askin.

First set of Board of Advisors: Joel Perry, Tim Lee and Gabriel Nevola will serve through 2006.

On May 8, 2003 we received our 501c3 designation from the IRS.

Meetings included activities in performing ensemble music, performing for each other, and other activities.

We held a Guitar Ensemble Festival (March 28, 2003) which included members of the Bloomfield Mandolin Orchestra, and student orchestras from Bergen County Academies, Franklin Township, Morristown, Elizabeth. Guest artist for this event was Joel Perry.

Conception of the society by Michael Lemma as a much-need place for New Jersey musicians to gather, share ideas and perform.

Planning of the society with intern Tim Lee.

Artist John Elliot created our logo.

The organization received its EIN from the IRS on December 19, 2002.
